Being able to help students through the culminating event of the PYP is one of the most exciting and challenging aspects of my job. The keys that make the Exhibition successful for my team and I are:
* We find the students passion. We spend weeks using Visible Thinking Routines
and interviewing students to discover what they really care
about.
* Planning: We plan well in advance with classroom
teachers, mentors and specialist. We then continue to meet throughout the
Exhibition.
* Our Grade 5 team works extremely closely together. Students are mixed between classes. Grouped together by interest. Therefore our team shares students, resources and ideas.
* We involve the community: We have mentors from throughout the school who volunteer to work with a group once a week. Students contact experts on their topic of interest and arrange interviews and field trips, conducting real life research.
* Communication: We communicate our expectations and keep parents, students and mentors updated both through meetings, in person and through our website.
Please view our 2014 PYP Exhibition website or our 2013 Exhibition website to get a better idea of how we organized the Exhibition.
